About
My name is Dan Lewis, this website is Munhu (mu-new). I have given myself a goal…to build a website that will be of interest and value to those who seek personal growth and development, better relationships and organizations that excel.
Personal growth and development
I am incurably interested in personal development and self improvement. All my life I have worked and pushed myself to be better, to enjoy more and to live each moment. As I embark on this journey of building a website with value and interest to others I know I have far more questions than answers, however, I look forward to the process of exploring these questions with you. You will find that there are many questions posed and topics related to personal development on this website. I will be presenting my ideas and thoughts on these subjects. I hope that they stimulate thought and discussion from you about your own ideas on personal development as well as your goals and aspirations.
I will only post original material on this site. There are many other websites that post material that can be found in other places. I will leave that up to them. That is not to say that I will not consider the thoughts and writings of others for we all stand on the shoulders of our forefathers, but I will try to extend their thinking and how it has affected my own life. As I find material that I think will be of interest to you I will link to it.
Often you will find that I write with a sense of authority about a subject or topic while at other times I will be more tentative, exploratory. We all have areas that we are more comfortable and familiar with and that we have come to some well earned conclusions, while other areas are still to be explored and learned about.
An example of the topics I will focus on are:
- handling money
- managing time
- maintaining health
- keeping a positive attitude
- connecting with people
- setting goals
- structuring beliefs
- celebrating success.
I hope this will be of interest to people of all ages who want to live fully and truly enjoy their lives.
Relationships and organizations
I also have a strong interest in relationship and organization development. I believe that personal development finds its full expression in relationships and organizations. They are the place that we experience the joy of living, the fruits of our personal development. Our personal development aspirations are often related to what we want for the relationships we value and the organizations within which we work and play. Personal development feeds directly into the quality of our relationships. Our membership or leadership roles in organizations affect the ability of those organizations to serve the needs of those who are associated with them.
Munhu will explore the beauty and yes the anguish that can be found in relationships and how to improve them so that they become the source of belonging, connection and life enhancing force they can so very well be.
My journey to build this website
Building a website that is of value to others from scratch is a major challenge. I will document my journey for those who may find it of interest. Up to the point of writing this page I have spent a great deal of time and effort. There are a great many technical challenges and perhaps even more importantly personal growth opportunities that arise. It can be read from the perspective of one who specifically wishes to start their own website or by those who more generically want to start their own business or personal endeavour of some kind. I believe the personal growth opportunities will be the same for all.
A final note about Munhu
Munhu is the Bantu word for person. Personal development, relationships and organizations are about persons first and foremost.
Munhu also connotes for me that people the world over are much the same in their personal aspirations and that there are certain laws or guidelines that apply to all of us.
Munhu signifies diversity, that despite our fundamental humanness we express ourselves through a richness of cultural expression that is priceless.
Munhu is about respect for each other. Here at Munhu we can be tough on ideas but always gentle on people.
Munhu is about quality. People benefit from good ideas, well expressed.
Munhu is about connection, a place to find a sense of belonging and conviviality (hospitality and warmth), a place you can find models for your own development.
Munhu is dedicated to helping people develop the beliefs, skills, networks and experiences to fully reach their potential, realize their aspirations and truly enjoy their lives.
